I've been developing software for over 30 years and discovered Elixir in the summer of 2024. We currently operate several software products that require high availability and scalability. The technology base is largely PHP and has grown over the years. I was looking for a new technology that felt good and could solve many of the issues we face today out of the box. That's how I came across Elixir and immediately ordered a few books. My challenge to myself was: If I, as an Elixir beginner, could program a useful project within four weeks – largely without external help – and get this project live on AWS, then this technology would be a real alternative for our business. The coding ultimately took three days, and the AWS deployment another two. I was live with a completely new project during the week. It felt incredibly good.
