We’re highly privacy-focused and prefer building in-house rather than relying on cloud providers. Elixir has been critical in enabling our small team to develop a robust system almost entirely from scratch. Ecto has been especially valuable, giving us powerful, direct access to PostgreSQL without the heavy abstractions common in other ORMs. LiveView has likewise been a game changer, letting us deliver a highly responsive UI without managing local state or spending much time on performance tuning. The testing story is amazing as well, with everything from low-level modules to entire views being easily tested and with very fast execution times. Our main challenge has been maintaining WebSocket connections in congested networks, such as at festivals, which has led us to consider rewriting some key views as static pages instead of LiveViews.
